Blog 16! Angels Have Wings!

Hey there,

I hope you all had a great weekend. Here we are again, Sunday evening... getting ready for school tomorrow!

This week has actually been another quiet week, socially, and another busy week work wise! Surely, that should be the other way round?

The only thing to report from this week was yesterday. Firstly, I went and see the matinee show of GHOST which marked my fourth time watching the show at the Picadilly! It was just as good as the first time I seen it. I would definitely reccommend going and seeing it in the west end BUT it finishes in a week. The good news though is it will be touring the UK early next year, so I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to see it. I will be quite interested to see how they manage to scale down the production (which is what they always do with touring west end shows) but still be able to pull off all of the special effects which really make the show. If you have never heard any of the music from GHOST before, take a listen below to one of my favourite songs, 'Here Right Now', below.

After the show, I met with one of my friends, Adam (It was actually the first time I met him) but we had messaged loads, spoke on the phone loads and FaceTimed loads. We went for plenty of drinks and it was great to get to know him better. He's like my brother from another mother!

As mentioned in last weeks blog, I have started writing a screenplay based on a novel my Grandad wrote years ago but he struggled to get it published back then. It was based around his harsh life as a young Irish boy and the difficulties of being split from his siblings as he went off to the Christian Brothers and the Nuns Convent. It follows his life right through until meeting my Nan and my father being born. It's a really strong story that I'm sure a lot of people can relate to. It's very much still at the early stages, but I thought it would be great to share a bit of it with you now (and it would be great to hear your feedback in the comments section too):

Angels Have Wings

SCENE 2

THE CONVENT
DUBLIN 1932

TOBIAS AND THE TWO MEN CONTINUE UP THE LONG DRIVE, PASSING THE GATE HOUSE. COMING TO THE WIDEST PART, WE SEE SOME LOVELY STATUES STANDING HIGH OFF THE GROUNDS. WE ARE THEN FOCUSED ON THE BIGGEST HOUSE ANY CHILD WILL HAVE SEEN.

MAN 1
Ringing doorbell
Now, remain quiet and let me do the talking.

NUN
Evening gentlemen! Please do come in out of the cold.
The men stand to one side talking to the Nun

MAN 2
Handing the Nun an envelope
This is for you. It has all the young chaps details enclosed.

MAN 1
Turning to Tobias
We hope you will be very happy in your new home.

TOBIAS
Forces a smile

NUN
Closing the door to the two men
Come with me now!

Tobias and the Nun enter a dormitory style room where they are greeted by about 50 boys, and a Sister.

NUN
This is the boy we were expecting today.
I shall leave you with Sister, and she will look after you.

BOY 1
What’s your name?

BOY 2
Where are you from?

BOY 1
Why do you not have a case with you?

SISTER
Boys! Please, let the little one through.
Removing Tobias’ coat
We will put your coat in here.

TOBIAS
With a tear in his eye
Please mam, I will get my coat back wont I? It’s the only thing I’ve got.

SISTER
Ignoring Tobias
Now, this is the junior dorm. All the boys in here are of the same age as you, so you will all get on just fine.

You will be expected to be up and ready for breakfast at 8am, have your chores complete by 10 and then the rest of the day is your free time. Dinner will be served at 5, then its washed and ready for bed. Lights out at 7 sharp.

Is all that clear?

TOBIAS
Yes.

SISTER
Now hurry along, and get ready for bed. I’ll see you in the morning.

TOBIAS
Walks off in silence

I cant believe its October tomorrow. This year has just flown by. Is it bad that I have already started counting down to Christmas? 86 days to go!!

This week consists of another busy week at work (for a change), although its only a four day week for me (yipee), Book Club (such a geek), a trip back to Coventry on Thursday and Cheryl Cole on Saturday. That' something to look forward hearing back in next week's blog.

Have a fantastic week, chase your dreams and enjoy life!

Blog 15! 20th Century Boy!

Hi there,

I hope you have all had a great week and an even better weekend. I cant believe its Sunday evening already and it's back to work tomorrow. I actually vote that we have Mon-Fri off and then work Sat and Sun - who's with me?

So, what have I been up to this week? Actually... not a lot really!

It's been really nice to actually have a quiet social week which has allowed me to concentrate on a busy week at work.

It's also given me a chance to catch up on loads of TV that I have recorded and haven't had the chance to watch too. One of the programmes is 'Mrs. Biggs' - have you been watching it? It follows the life of Charmian Biggs, who was the wife of Ronnie Biggs, during the great train robbery. It follows her life and tells the heartache of discovering that her husband becomes one of the most notorious criminals in history. Sheridan Smith takes the title role which is also another big plus point to watching it. It's on Wednesday evenings (but does clash with Dallas!!) and is number 4 of 5 this week! Definitely worth a watch!
This weekend, I have been back in Coventry and as I mentioned in my last blog, I went to see 20th Century Boy at the Belgrade Theatre which is a new musical based on the life of Marc Bolan. It was absolutely fantastic!! It was great to see the whole of the audience up on their feet during the closing few songs of the performance. After the show, it was full on party times to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the regeneration of the theatre. The whole cast came out and joined us for a few drinks after and a good boogie... and we partied until 4am! Good night all round!

The remainder of the weekend, I have been catching up with friends and catching up on all of the gossip that's happened. It's also made me realise just how much i miss living in Coventry - I need to sort that out asap!

Some of you may know, that I have started writing a screenplay. When my grandad was younger, he wrote a novel, that he struggled to get published back then. It was based around his harsh life as an Irish boy and the difficulties of being split from his siblings as he went off to the Christian Brothers and the Nuns Covent. It follows his life right through until meeting my Nan and my father being born. It's a really strong story that I'm sure a lot of people can relate to. So, I've decided to have a go at basing the screenplay around the story. I've made a good start on it already and I'll post a snippet from it in my next blog!

Right, that's about it for this week. Next week, I'm off to an Olympic Reunion meal (Drums optional) and going to see GHOST The Musical for the fourth and last (it closes in two weeks) time. More on those next week though.

Have a great week, be adventurous and do try something new!

Blog 14! Freebies, Racing Pigs and Athlete Gold!

Hello there,

I hope you have all had a nice weekend. I hate this time of the weekend...I just have the thought of getting up for work in my head... constantly!! It's not good. When is it my turn to win the lottery?

So, what have I been up to over the past week? Or more like what havent I been up to. It was another manic week for me... as per usual! I just dont know where I find the time to fit everything in... anyway, I suppose I wouldnt have it any other way.

Last Thursday I went to the 'Fashion Night Out' with friends, which is basically where all the shops (mainly the posh ones that no-one can ever afford to buy anything from), open their doors late and invite people in for free drinks and a browse of their products. Now, I'm not into fashion that much, so I merely went along for the free drinks and goodie bags - It'd be rude not to right?! I actually still really enjoyed it and it was great to have a nice free night out, whilst mingling with all of the fashion celebs. I didnt actually have a clue who any of them were... but of course I pretended that I did. I was also slightly dissapointed by the lack of goodie bags that were available. I managed to get a free Superdry keyring and a bottle of Shloer (Who even drinks Shloer?).

Here are a few pictures from the night...

As you will have seen (or you may not have), that I was lucky enough to attend the Team GB Athletes Parade at the beginning of the week. As I was a volunteer in the Ceremonies, we were able to be put into a ballot to recieve one ticket to stand in the VIP section on The Mall. They had 900 tickets available against 10,000 volunteers... the odds of me actually getting one was pretty slim. WELL... I got a ticket!!

The atmostphere on the day was absolutely fantastic. There was a lot of waiting around as the parade started in East London and made it way to The Mall. It was totally worth it though and as you can see from Tom Daley in this picture, the athletes were really soaking up the atmosphered and were wearing their medals with real pride. Speaking of Daley, I've just heard that his Official 2013 calender is available to pre-order now... Definitely having one of those.

The parade also marked the final 'duty' for the 2012 Olympic games - Sad times!

I've had a nice chilled weekend this week, especially today where I ventured out of bed this morning to go for breakfast with friends, before getting back into bed until 5pm!!! Lazy, I know!

Yesterday, I went to the Lambeth Country Festival. It was better than it sounds... trust me! Think: Food Stalls, Fairground, Beer Tents, Racing Pigs, Unsigned Bands... and you're very nearly there. It was just really nice to lie on the grass whilst sipping some cold(ish) beer and enjoying some rice and pea (Carribean style).

I have a relatively quiet week planned this week (phew!), but that is of course, bound to change. I'm also looking forward to heading back to Coventry for the weekend and especially going to see "20th Century Boy" at the Belgrade Theatre (where I used to work). It will also be a great chance to catch up with old work friends and enjoy a drunken night out. Perfect!

Have a great week, try new things and have a good time.

I'll leave you with one final picture... my new bedroom 'Official 2012' door sign.
